Many women make the mistake of wearing large or very sparkly jewellery against a dress which already has a lot of embellishments on it. If you have a simple dress then you can accessorize with striking jewellery, but if your dress already shimmers with sequins and pearls, then it will look much more classy to accessorize with dainty jewellery like some small 77 Diamonds studs or a simple silver charm bracelet. You don't want your accessories to be a distraction from your beautiful dress.
Another thing to remember when deciding upon a prom dress is the material. Although satin is an elegant fabric which flows with the body, sometimes it doesn't flatter the figure as well as you would like it to. Satin, and in particular stretch satin, has the tenancy to reflect light which makes you look fuller. Plus, it reveals panty lines, bumps and bulges. Why not opt for a more structured dress in a non-reflective fabric?
Sequins and pearls make beautiful embellishments on a dress, but be careful not to choose a dress with too many because this will make the gown look cheap. Instead, choose a dress which features sequins on just the neckline or the waist. It is far more elegant and dainty this way.
A dress with a sash or a bow around the tummy are wonderful ways to highlight your waistline and emphasise your curvy shape. Choosing a brightly colored sash or bow which stands out from the dress will highlight your waist even more.
The most important thing to remember is that you should wear a dress you feel comfortable and happy in.
